Yesterday we drove three hours to Cinque Terre. It is a rugged portion of the coast on the Italian Riviera in the Liguria region of Italy. We took an intercity train from La Spezia to the first town of Riomaggiore. Our plan was to walk to all five of the towns, but because of torrential rains and mudslides that happened in October of 2011 this was not possible. We visited three of the towns each with their own breathtaking views. We walked up 382 stairs to get to the third town of Corniglia, had lunch, and decided to take the train back to La Spezia because our parking was about to expire.
We stopped at the Bennet grocery store on the way home to stock up on more carbs and then drove home to get started on our insulin induced coma (dinner).
The last few days have been very pleasant and uneventful. Gene is on a roll. He has not done any damage to the new car for four days. Although now he is very nervous and drives like an 80 year old man.
Today we are going into Mezzegra for dinner, and tomorrow we are headed to the Alessi factory store and to Orta San Giulio.
