Time is passing by quickly. Last Saturday we (Gene, Joan, Kathie, Francesca) had brunch at the Menaggio e Cadenabbia Golf Club as guests of Dennis and Anna. The scenery was magnificent as was the food and the company. Francesca departed for Phoenix on Sunday morning and Kathie left for San Francisco on Tuesday morning. On Monday Gene and I decided that we would show Kathie Bellano, where Villa Wally is located. This is where we stayed for 7 weeks last summer. We drove around the lake to Olgiasco where we visited Abbazia del Piona, a beautiful, tranquil church and abbey perched out on a headland that almost encloses a small lagoon. The church dates from the mid 12th century. We then preceded on to Bellano where we drove up to Villa Wally (noticing that there were cranes in their view also) and reminised about last summer. We went down to Bellano and had lunch at Gene's favorite pizza restaurant. The owner remembered him and treated us to complimentary limoncello at the end of our meal. We then drove to Varenna and took the ferry to Menaggio and returned home. On Wednesday we drove to Stresa on Lake Maggiore and checked out that lake. We definitely prefer Lake Como because of the mountains surrounding it. We then drove to Omegna, the home of the Alessi factory and did some shopping at their shop. We stopped at the Bennet in Como to do some shopping. When we came out of the market returning to our car in the garage I gracefully tripped over a shopping cart rail and ended up on my face and elbow. Two Italian gentlemen, Gene and another fellow rushed to my rescue. I was fine except for a stiff elbow, a few bruises and the loss of my dignity. Oh well......... Today Doug, Nicole and Demi arrive for a short stay and I'm going to fix Anna's pasta. Next week Peter and Heather arrive and then the next week we leave and we will be very sorry to go. We are already scouting for a place to rent next year.
